Staying in touch online

Tom

When I can’t meet my friends after school, we usually play online games together. We use headsets to talk to each other while we play. It is really fun! I don’t like video calls very much because I feel shy on camera. I prefer just hearing their voices. During the day, I also send a lot of funny pictures and short videos to my friends. I love making them laugh! I don’t write long messages because I am quite slow at typing on my phone.

Sarah

I love seeing my friends, so video calls are the best way to stay in touch for me. My best friend and I often call each other in the evening to do our homework together. It is much easier when we can help each other! We also have a big group chat with all our classmates. Sometimes, I am too tired to type, so I send long voice messages instead. I tell them about my day or talk about the music I am listening to.

Ben

My friends and I love films, so we often watch them together online. We use an app that lets us watch the same movie at exactly the same time. We can also chat while we watch. I also have a penpal in Spain. We never call each other on the phone. We always send long emails instead. It helps me practise my Spanish! When I find a great new song, I usually share it with my friends by sending them a link on the internet.

    Digital Family Chore Charts

    HomeHero

Do you forget to do your jobs at home? You can use our app to help! First, talk to your family and choose the jobs you actually like doing. Then, put them on your digital chart. You can make your phone ring to remind you when it is time to work. The best part is that you get points every time you finish a job. You can use these points to get nice things, like a trip to the cinema or a new game!

    CleanTeam

Making a digital chore chart is a great idea. But remember, do not put too many things on your list. If you have only two or three jobs, you can do them really well. When you finish cleaning your room or washing the dishes, you must use your phone to take a photo. You can put the picture on the app. Then, your parents can look at the app while they are at work and see your great job!

    FamilyPlan

Housework is often boring, but a digital chart can make it fun. You should change the jobs on your chart every week. If you wash the car this week, you can clean the windows next week. It is a good idea to agree on a cleaning hour. This means everyone in the family does their jobs at the exact same time. You can play loud music while you work together! Do not forget to look at the chart every morning so you know what to do.

      Helping parents with computers

      Alex

My mum asked for my help yesterday. Her laptop was very slow. I looked at it and saw she had thousands of old photos on it. I told her we needed to delete some. She was worried because she didn't want to lose them. I showed her how to save them on the internet first. After that, we deleted them from the laptop. Now, her computer is much faster. I usually fix our television, so I was happy to fix this too.

      Jamie

My dad uses his computer for work every day. Last week, he couldn't find an important letter. His computer screen was full of different documents. I sat with him and taught him how to put his work into different folders. It looks much tidier now! He was really pleased and bought me a huge pizza to say thank you. When I was younger, he always helped me fix my broken toys, so it felt great to help him with his problem.

      Robin

On Saturday, my parents were annoyed because their computer couldn't connect to the internet. They wanted to send an email to my aunt. I looked at the little black box that gives us Wi-Fi. I just turned it off, waited a minute, and turned it on again. It worked immediately! They thought I was a computer genius. I think they should go to a computer class at the library to learn more. After I fixed it, I had to wait hours to play my games!
