Talking to your parents about a bad test
Choose the right time
It is very important to find a good time to talk. Do not show the bad test mark to your parents when they are cooking dinner. You must wait until they are not busy. If they are working on their computers, they will feel stressed. Wait until the weekend or a quiet evening. You can say, "Can we talk about school?" when everyone is relaxed. This helps them listen to you better. They want to help, so a calm chat is always the best idea.
Make a good plan
Before you speak to your parents, you should think about the next test. Parents want to know how you can do better. Make a plan and tell them you will study more. You can say, "I will spend an extra hour on my maths homework." Also, you can ask your teacher for help with the difficult lessons. Tell your parents about this idea. When they see you want to work hard and improve, they will not be angry about one bad mark.
Tell the truth fast
You must always be honest with your family. Never hide a bad test in your bag. If your parents find it later, they will be very unhappy. It is best to tell them immediately after you come home from school. Explain that the test was hard, but tell the truth. Your parents love you and they will be pleased because you are honest. Everyone gets bad marks sometimes! It is just one test, and talking about it quickly makes you feel much better.

The School Festival
Carlos
I am very excited about the school festival this weekend. I am making chocolate cakes for everyone to eat. My sister usually makes the food for parties, but this time my aunt is helping me bake them. They taste amazing! I am happy to sell them at my table, but I feel a bit nervous. The teachers say hundreds of students will come. I usually hate big groups, but I think it will be a fun day.
Nina
My friends and I started a rock band last year, and we are playing music at the festival. We meet after school every single day to play our songs. We want everything to be perfect. My dad plays the guitar, but he is busy, so we are practicing without him. I want to look great on stage, so I have to go to the shopping centre tomorrow to get some nice black jeans. I cannot wait!
Leo
I love sports, so I am organizing a football competition for the festival. It is going to happen outside on the grass. Anyone can play, and the best team will get a really nice sports bag. I went to the sports shop yesterday to choose it! Lots of people want to play, which is great. I am not worried about the number of players. It is going to be the best festival ever!
