Talking to adults about saving energy
Ask questions
Do you want your parents to turn off lights more often? It is not a good idea to just tell them what to do. Adults do not like that! Instead, ask them questions. You can say, "Can we try to use less electricity this week?" Ask them to teach you how to read the electricity bill. When you ask for their help, they will listen to your ideas. You can make a polite poster for the kitchen together.
Share facts
Sometimes older people do not know how much energy we use for heating or water. Do not get angry about this. You can find a short video about saving the planet and watch it with them. Say, "I saw this interesting video at school. Can we watch it?" Learning together is fun. You can also write down some surprising facts on paper. Show your family the facts after dinner. When adults see real information, they usually change.
Offer your help
Maybe you want your family to use the car less to save energy. Adults are often tired after work, so they drive everywhere. You can help them! Tell your parents you want to walk to the supermarket with them. You can say, "Let's walk! I can carry the shopping bags for you." When you offer to help, adults are happy. You can also plan a fun weekend trip on the bus. This shows them that you care.

Worried about the weather
Leo
I really hate how hot the summers are now. In July, my bedroom is so warm that I cannot sleep at night. I am very worried about the environment. Near my house, there is a small river, but there is no water in it anymore. Because it is completely dry, the wild birds and animals cannot find anything to drink. I feel sad when I look out of my window. I hope it rains soon.
Mia
The weather is very different now. When I was little, winter was always very cold, and we had a lot of snow. Now, it is quite warm in December. But the summer heat is the biggest problem. I love playing football in the park, but it is too hot to run outside. My parents tell me I must stay inside the house all afternoon. It makes me feel angry because I just want to play.
Sam
Every summer, I watch the news on television, and I feel afraid. The sun is very strong, and the grass gets really dry. I worry that the woods near our town will catch fire. Because I feel scared about the changes, I want to do something to help. I always recycle my plastic bottles, and last month I planted three new trees in my garden. Trees give us nice shade and help keep the air cool.
