Community Gardens for Teenagers

The Sunny Corner

Do you feel sad when it rains? Come to The Sunny Corner! Here, you can grow big yellow flowers. Many teenagers come here after school. It is a great place to meet new people and make friends. You do not need to bring any tools. We have everything you need. Working in the dirt with others is very fun. When you see your first flower open, you will feel so happy. Just remember to wear old clothes because it can get messy!

The Quiet Space

School tests can make you feel very tired and worried. If you want to relax, The Quiet Space is perfect for you. In this part of the garden, we grow purple and blue flowers. These flowers smell amazing and help you feel calm. You can sit on the grass, enjoy a book, or just listen to the birds. You must water the plants here every evening, but it is an easy job. It is the best place to forget about your busy day.

The Action Garden

Are you full of energy? Then you will love The Action Garden! Growing flowers here is hard work. You have to carry heavy water and dig deep holes for the seeds. But moving your body is a fantastic way to feel good. When you finish your work, you will feel tired but very proud. We usually grow tall red flowers here because they grow very fast. You can even pick some flowers to take home to your family at the weekend.

    Organizing a Neighborhood Recycling Day

    Lucas

I wanted to help our street, so my parents and I planned a recycling day. First, I drew some big posters and put them on the walls around my town. I asked everyone to bring old clothes and books. People usually throw these things away. My sister helped me carry the heavy boxes. We collected hundreds of storybooks for the children's hospital. It was hard work, but we felt very happy. My friends want to do it next year, but I am too busy.

    Sofia

Our neighborhood recycling day was amazing! I asked my neighbors to keep their plastic and glass bottles. On Saturday, we stood in the car park and sorted everything into different bags. I could not believe how many bottles we got! There were thousands of them. The owner of the local shop saw us working. She was very kind and gave us some sweet cakes to eat. We did not want to make it a race, so we just worked slowly and talked to everyone.

    Ben

Last weekend, my friends and I cleaned the park. We looked for old newspapers and paper boxes. To make it exciting, we played a game. The person with the most paper was the winner! I did not win, but we had a great time. Some younger children watched us, but they did not help this time. The park looks beautiful and clean now. We really enjoyed the day, so we decided to do exactly the same thing again next month.

      Thank You, Teen Volunteers!

      Winter Shoppers

Thank you to the Winter Shoppers! You help older people who cannot carry heavy bags from the supermarket. Every Friday after school, you take their shopping lists, read them carefully, and buy their food. You always make sure they have enough to eat during the cold weather. You walk to the shops in the snow, but you do not clear the paths. As a big thank you, the local café gives you a hot chocolate without paying when you finish your work!

      Snow Clearers

Thank you to the Snow Clearers! Your hard work helps older people stay safe outside when there is ice. You wake up very early and clear the snow from their gardens before your school lessons begin. You do this from Monday to Friday, so they can walk out of their front doors. You even bring your own big tools from your house to do the job. You do not buy their food, but you make their winter much easier!

      Friendly Callers

Thank you to the Friendly Callers! You do an amazing job every Saturday and Sunday. You talk on the phone to older people who must stay inside because of the bad weather. You use the phones in the school office to call them. You spend hours talking about their favourite hobbies, and you even read books to them over the phone. You do not use heavy tools or work outside in the cold, but your kind words bring them lots of happiness.
