Working in a volunteer team
Finn
I volunteer at an animal rescue centre. Sometimes, my team cannot agree on how to do things. When my friends start shouting, I do not like it. I always walk outside for a few minutes. This helps me feel calm. Then, I go and talk to the adult manager. She always knows what to say. She tells me how to fix the problem. When I go back inside, I share her ideas with the group.
Maya
I help plant trees in my town. Working in a group is great, but we often have different ideas. If there is a big argument, I ask everyone to sit down in a circle. I think we must listen carefully to every person. Nobody should feel left out. After we hear all the ideas, we must choose one. Everyone puts a hand in the air for the best plan. We count the hands, and we use that plan. It is very fair!
Toby
My friends and I clean the local park every weekend. Sometimes we get angry because we want to do different jobs. When this happens, we work very slowly, and that is bad! So, I usually tell a silly joke. When my friends laugh, they stop feeling angry. Then, I tell them that we are here to help our town. That is the most important thing. After that, everyone smiles and we go back to work together happily.

Move It Inside
Oh no, it is raining on your community party! Do not feel sad. You can easily move the fun inside. Ask your neighbors to come into your house or a local hall. Everyone can carry the sandwiches, cakes, and drinks to the new place. Put some happy music on your phone and start dancing in the living room. The party is not over. It is just in a different place now. Your friends will still have a wonderful time with you.
Fun Indoor Games
A wet day does not mean a bad day. When the weather is terrible, you can find lots of fun things to do together. Ask people to bring their favorite board games from home. You can sit in a circle on the floor, play games, and laugh a lot. It is a great chance to talk to neighbors you do not know well. Soon, you will forget about the dark clouds and the rain outside.
Plan A New Date
Sometimes the storm is too heavy, and everyone must go home. You do not have to be upset. You can use this time to plan an even better party for next month. Send a message to your neighbors and ask them for new ideas. While you wait for sunny weather, you can share old photos of past parties on your neighborhood website. Helping injured birds
Leo
I spend my Saturday mornings at an animal hospital in my town. People bring hurt birds there, and I help the doctors. I cannot do difficult medical things yet, but my main job is giving milk and soft food to the baby birds. I really like holding them. They need a lot of care, so I know my job is important. I want to become an animal doctor when I leave school, so this helps me learn a lot.
Maya
Last year, I found a bird with a broken wing on the grass in my garden. Since then, I always look for hurt birds near my house. My dad is very good at making things, so we build small wooden boxes together. The birds sleep inside them and stay warm and safe. I love checking on them every morning. I feel so proud and useful on the day they are strong again and I see them fly away into the sky.
Toby
I am a volunteer at a big wildlife centre. We get lots of birds that cannot fly because they are sick or hurt. I don't give the birds their medicine. Instead, I wash their cages and put in fresh water. It is dirty work, but I don't mind! I work with a fantastic group of young people. We all share the jobs. It makes me feel very useful because I know we are doing something good for nature together.
