Climbing a high mountain
Lucas
Last weekend, my friends and I walked up a very high mountain. I put too many heavy things in my backpack, so my shoulders really hurt. After two hours, I was completely tired. I wanted to stop and go back down! But my friends told me to keep walking. When we finally arrived at the top, the view was beautiful. I felt so proud. I used my phone to take a wonderful picture of the valley. It was a great day!
Maya
I climbed a famous mountain with my dad on Sunday. We started walking very early in the morning. The sky was dark and the wind was really cold. I wore my thickest coat, but I still felt freezing! The path was full of big rocks, and my feet were very tired. But I didn't want to stop. When we reached the highest point, the sun came out. I felt incredibly strong and happy. I loved sharing that amazing moment with my dad.
Tom
Climbing the mountain yesterday was the hardest thing I ever did! My legs hurt so much that I could not walk fast. Luckily, I went running in the park every day last month to get ready for this trip. That really helped me. The final part of the mountain was very steep. But when I got to the top, I felt amazing. I sat on a rock and ate a huge chocolate bar. It was the best reward after so much work!

Missing Home at the Youth Hostel?
Stay Busy
It is completely normal to miss your parents when you stay at our hostel. But sitting alone on your bed will make you feel worse. You should leave your bedroom and go outside. Join the other guests in the garden. We have lots of fun activities every day. You can play football or try swimming. When your body is active, your brain stops worrying. You will soon have a great time and forget to be sad.
Talk About It
When you feel sad about being far from home, you should share your feelings. Many other young people in the hostel miss their families too. You are not alone! Talk to your new friends in the dining room. You can also speak to the hostel staff. We are always happy to listen and help you. Another great idea is to keep a small notebook. You can write down your daily thoughts and read them later.
Keep in Touch
You can always contact your parents if you miss them. Send them a short text message before you go to sleep. You can also use your phone to take nice photos of the hostel and the town. Your parents will love seeing your adventures! However, you must not spend all day calling them. If you look at your phone too much, you will miss the fun things happening here. Riding a fast roller coaster abroad
Leo
Last month, I visited the United States with my family. We went to a famous theme park. My older brother wanted to go on the biggest roller coaster there. While we were waiting for it to start, I was really afraid. It looked so high! But when it moved, it was amazingly fast and I loved it. At the end, we saw our faces on a screen. I looked very funny, so I paid for the photo to take home.
Anna
I went on a brilliant holiday to Japan last year. We visited a park with a very famous roller coaster. It is completely crazy! The best part is when it goes really fast and turns you upside down. I shouted very loudly because it was so exciting. When the ride stopped, my stomach felt a bit ill. But I drank some water, and then I went on it one more time! I didn't take any pictures because I was too busy having fun.
Dan
During our trip to Australia, we found a great amusement park. There is a new roller coaster there. A lot of people wanted to try it, so we stood in a line for two hours! Finally, it was our turn.
