Why do you feel hungry and grumpy?

The Breakfast Problem

Do you often wake up late and run to school without breakfast? This is a big mistake! When you do not eat in the morning, your body has no energy. You might feel fine at first. But by two o'clock in the afternoon, you will feel very hungry and tired. It is hard to listen to your teachers when your stomach is empty. You should try to wake up ten minutes earlier. Eat some toast or fruit before you leave the house. You will feel much better later!

The Wrong Snacks

Sometimes you feel tired after lunch and you want to eat sweet things. Many teenagers buy chocolate or biscuits to get more energy. This sugar makes you feel great for a short time. But quickly, the good feeling goes away. Then, you feel very angry and grumpy with your friends. Your body needs healthy food, not sugar. Next time you want a snack in the afternoon, do not choose sweets. You can eat some nuts or an apple instead. These will give you energy for a longer time.

Drink More Water

Sometimes you feel hungry, but your body actually wants water! In the afternoon, you might think you need a big sandwich. But really, you just need a drink. Many teenagers do not drink enough water during the school day. When you are thirsty, your head can hurt and you can become very grumpy. You should always carry a water bottle in your bag. Try to drink water during your breaks and at lunchtime. If you do this, you will not feel so hungry before dinner.

    Fixing my bicycle

    Carlos

My bicycle chain fell off last Saturday. My dad wanted to pay a bike shop to fix it. I said no because I wanted to try. I looked on the internet and found a helpful video. It showed me exactly what to do. The oil made my hands completely black, and my clothes were dirty too. But when I finally rode my bike to the park, I felt so happy. I smiled the whole way there.

    Leo

Last week, I rode over some glass and got a flat tire. I did not need to watch a video to fix it. My grandad showed me how to change a tire when I was ten. I remembered his advice and found my tools. It was easy! The next day, my little brother had the same problem with his bike. He asked for my help, so I fixed his tire too. I felt like a real mechanic!

    Sam

The brakes on my bicycle stopped working, so I bought some new parts. I was very nervous before I started. I thought I might do something wrong and break the bike completely! I stayed in the garage all afternoon to make sure everything was perfect. When I finished, the brakes worked brilliantly. I was so proud that I took a photo of the bike and sent it to my friends. It is great to learn new things.

      Asking for more pocket money

      Write it down

Do you want more pocket money? It is a good idea to make a list before you speak to your parents. Write down all the things you buy every week, like bus tickets or school snacks. Then, show them the prices. Things cost more now than they did in the past! When your parents see your list, they will understand your problem. Do not just say, "I have no money." Showing them the real numbers is a much better way to ask.

      Wait for the weekend

When you talk to your parents is very important. Do not ask for money when they come home from work. They are usually tired and hungry then. It is better to wait for the weekend. Ask them when they are sitting in the living room and drinking tea. You can say, "Can we talk about my pocket money, please?" Always speak in a quiet voice. If you get angry or shout, they will definitely say no. Keep calm and smile!

      Help around the house

A great way to get more pocket money is to do extra jobs at home. You can wash the family car on Sundays or clean the kitchen floor. Tell your parents you want to help them more. You can say, "If I do these jobs every week, can I have a little more money?" This shows your parents that you are growing up. They will be happy because you want to work hard, and they will probably give you the extra cash.
