How to avoid distractions while studying online

Your mobile phone

When you study online, your mobile phone is a big problem. You do not need any special programs to help you. Just put your phone in another room! Before you start, you must send a message to your classmates. Tell them that you are doing your homework. Then, they will not call you. When you complete all your school work, you can get your phone back. Then you can read all your messages and play games with your friends.

Your computer screen

It is very easy to forget your homework when you are on the internet. You should only look at the internet page you need for your school work. Close all other pages! You must turn off your online games, too. If you still want to look at your favourite websites, you can get a free program for your computer. This program stops you from visiting fun websites for an hour. It is very helpful when you have a lot of work!

Your desk space

Your computer is not the only thing that stops you from studying. Look at your desk. You should take away old papers, magazines, and anything you do not need. A clean table helps you think better. It is also important to take a break every thirty minutes. You can open your bedroom window to get some fresh air. But do not stay at your desk. Walk to the kitchen or the living room to relax before you start studying again.

    Submitting our science projects online

    Leo

My science project was about space, and I made a short video for it. The new online platform is great because I could put my film right on the website. At first, I was worried because I almost forgot the day we had to finish it! My parents watched me upload it on the computer. It was very easy to do. My teacher really liked my work, but she told me to be more careful about dates next time!

    Sam

I did my project about wild plants. I did not do it alone. My classmate Tom worked on it with me. When we first opened the new website, we didn't know what to do. There were too many buttons! But after a few minutes, we understood it. We finished everything three days early. I really hope we keep using this platform. It is much better than bringing heavy paper projects to school in our bags!

    Mia

I took lots of photos of different insects for my project. I wanted to put them on the new science website using my mobile phone. Suddenly, my internet stopped working! Luckily, my older brother knows a lot about phones, and he quickly fixed it for me. When my project was on the website, I spent an hour looking at the work from other students in my class. A guide to writing polite emails to your teachers

      Saying hello and goodbye

When you write an email to a teacher, you must start with a polite greeting. You can use 'Dear' or 'Good morning', and then put their family name. Remember that your teacher is not your classmate. You cannot use words like 'Hi' or 'Hey'. At the end of your message, you should say 'Thank you' or 'Best wishes', and then write your full name. Do not write a long goodbye. Just show that you respect their time.

      Explaining your problem

Teachers get a lot of emails every day. Always use the subject box at the top. You should write a few words there so the teacher knows the topic immediately. Then, you can begin by telling them what is wrong. Perhaps you cannot do your homework or you are ill. Do not write a very long story about your day. Just ask your question or say what you need in a few short sentences. This helps your teacher answer you faster.

      Checking your message

You must always check your words carefully before you send an email. Make sure you do not have any spelling mistakes. It is often a good idea to show your message to a parent first. They can read it and tell you if it sounds polite. Also, think about when you send it. You must not send messages to teachers late at night or on Sunday. You should save your message and wait until the next school morning to send it.

      Answer Key & Explanations

7 A - Reason: The text says you "must start with a polite greeting" and gives examples to use instead of just saying hello.

8 C - Reason: The text tells you to check your words carefully and make sure there are no "spelling mistakes".

11 C - Reason: The text tells you to think about when you send it and warns you not to send messages "late at night or on Sunday".

12 B - Reason: The text tells you to "use the subject box at the top" so the teacher knows the topic immediately.

13 C - Reason: The text says it is a good idea to "show your message to a parent first" before you send it.
