Learning History with VR

Leo

I used a VR headset in my history class last week. Our teacher brought it to school for us to try. I really enjoyed looking at old Egyptian buildings. The pyramids looked so tall! You can see exactly how people built them. However, I can only use the headset for a short time. If I wear it for too long, my head hurts and I feel sick. My sister wants to buy one, but they cost a lot of money.

Maya

I saved my pocket money for a long time to get my VR headset. It is the best thing I own! I love history, and with VR, I can meet famous people from the past. Yesterday, I stood next to a very old king. I have a big history exam next month. Using VR helps me remember important facts easily. Sometimes my friends come to my house to try it, but we usually just play music games.

Toby

Learning history from a book is often quite boring for me. But with my VR headset, the past is amazing! I can stand on old ships and watch sea battles. My older brother loves history too. We always share the headset and explore different countries together in our living room. Our dad uses it sometimes, but he only likes looking at modern cars. I hope we can use VR to learn about space in my science class soon!

Are you good at numbers? We need a helpful app for students who find maths difficult. For this competition, you cannot work alone. You must work in teams of two or three. Your app should show students how to answer maths questions step by step. We want to see bright colours and big numbers. You only have two weeks to give us your ideas. The winning team will receive some amazing computer software. Please send an email with your app design to Mr Jones.

    Homework Planner

Students often forget when they need to finish their school work. You can help by designing a Homework Planner app! Your app must show students a weekly calendar so they can organise their time. Educational channels on video apps

      Lucas

I love following science channels on my favourite video app. The people in the videos explain difficult things very simply, and they speak clearly. This helps me understand everything. They often show clever science tricks. Sometimes I try to do the same tricks in my kitchen, but I always ask my dad first! I want to learn every day, but sometimes I see videos of funny animals. Then I forget about science and watch those instead!

      Sara

I follow a few great channels about art and drawing. I get bored quickly, so I only watch videos that are two or three minutes long. I don't like long videos. When my art teacher asks us to make something for a school project, I always find great ideas on these apps. The videos show me exactly how to use my paints and pencils. My sister prefers music channels, but I think the art ones are much better.

      Tom

My favourite app has excellent history and geography channels. My dad loves history too, so we always sit together and watch them in the evening. The videos are often quite long, but they are never boring. Because I watch these channels, I usually know a lot of information before my teacher even talks about it in our lessons. Sometimes I tell my classmates about the things I learn. They think the facts are really interesting!

      Answer Key & Explanations

7 C - Reason: Tom says he knows a lot of information before his teacher talks about it in his lessons.

8 A - Reason: Lucas says he tries to do the same science tricks in his kitchen.

9 B - Reason: Sara says she always finds great ideas on the apps when she needs to make something for a school project.

10 C - Reason: Tom says he and his dad sit together and watch the channels in the evening. Lucas mentions his dad, but only to ask for permission.

11 B - Reason: Sara says she only watches videos that are two or three minutes long because she gets bored quickly. Tom watches long videos.

12 A - Reason: Lucas says he sometimes forgets about science and watches funny animal videos instead.

13 A - Reason: Lucas says the people in the videos explain things simply and speak clearly, which helps him understand.
