Math Helpers

Do you like numbers? Join Math Helpers! You can help younger students from year 7 and 8 with their math homework. We meet every Tuesday after school in the main library. You do not need to be the best at math, but you must be patient. We also play fun number games with the younger children at the end of the lesson. It is a great way to make new friends. Please talk to Mr. Jones if you want to join.

Reading Buddies

We are looking for students to join Reading Buddies. This group meets on Wednesday at lunchtime in the school café. You will sit with younger students and listen to them read. You can also talk to them about your favorite books. It is important to help them feel happy when they read. You do not have to write anything in this group. You just need to love reading! Ask Mrs. Smith in the English office to put your name on the list.

Science Stars

Science Stars is a fun group for older students to help younger ones. We meet in the science room on Friday afternoons. You will help younger students understand their science lessons. Sometimes, you will also help them build small models or do simple projects with plants and water. You must wear old clothes because your clothes can get dirty. Solving problems during group presentations

    Leo

I always do projects with my two best friends. Sometimes we argue because we want to choose different topics for our presentation. Last week, we got very angry. When this happens, I think it is important to stop working. We go outside and play football for half an hour. We do not talk about the project. When we feel calm, we go back inside. We never tell the teacher about our problems. We just want to stay good friends!

    Maya

My group usually works well together, but sometimes we have big arguments. We often fight about who does the most work. Some people do not want to write the presentation! We also argue about which pictures to use. When we cannot agree, I always ask our teacher for help. She listens to us and gives us good advice. She shows us the best way to do things. I think it is better to ask an adult than to keep fighting.

    Sam

I love doing group presentations. My friends and I work hard without a break. But it is hard when everyone wants to do different things. In my group, we have a special rule to stop arguments. First, we sit down together. Everyone gets a chance to speak and share their ideas. Then, we vote to make the final choice. We put our hands up for the best idea. The idea with the most hands wins. It is a very fair way to work.

Speaking in front of the class

      Speak Up Club

Do you feel nervous when you talk to the class? The best thing to do is practice. Stand in front of a mirror in your bedroom and say your words. It is also important to breathe slowly before you start. This makes your body feel calm. When you are at the front of the room, remember to look at the other students. Don't just look at the floor. If you practice a lot, you will do a great job.

      Drama Group Advice

Speaking to the class is like acting in a play. You can pretend you are a very confident person! Remember to speak loudly so that everyone at the back of the room can hear you. You can also move your hands a little to show you are interested in your topic. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. If you say the wrong word, just smile and continue. It is not a big problem. You can enjoy the experience if you try!

      Student Help Centre

Are you speaking to the class soon? You do not need to read every word from a piece of paper. Just write down some short notes to help you remember the main ideas. While you speak, find your friends in the room and look at them. Their happy faces will make you feel better. If you still feel worried, you can always ask your teacher for a chat before the lesson. They want to help you succeed.
