Cheering up a friend
Tom
When my friend gets a bad mark, I think they just need a break. I never ask them questions about the exam because that makes them feel worse. Instead, I always invite them to the park. We sit on the grass and eat some ice cream or chocolate. Food always makes people smile! We talk about our favourite bands or weekend plans. I want them to forget about school for a few hours. This usually helps my friend feel much better.
Anna
I always try to make my classmate laugh if they are sad about a grade. I tell them some silly jokes as soon as classes finish. Then, we usually go to the sports centre to play basketball or tennis. Moving around helps you feel good. Sometimes we just go to my house and play video games. If my friend wants to study for the next test, I always say yes. We can look at the books together, but only if they ask me.
Ben
When my classmate is unhappy about a test, I always listen to them. I think it is important to talk about feelings. I usually tell them about a time when I got a very bad grade in maths. This shows them that everyone makes mistakes and it is okay. I also like to buy a small present for them, like a nice new pen or a bright notebook. I tell them to use it next time. That always gives them a little hope.

Advice on choosing school subjects
Future Studies
It is important to talk to your parents about your school subjects for next year. Before you talk to them, collect some information. You can show them a school book or some papers with facts about the classes. This shows you are serious. Explain how these subjects will help you get a good job one day. Your parents might not agree at first. If this happens, you must not get angry. Take a deep breath. They just want the best for you.
Subject Choices
Are you ready to choose your subjects for next year? First, you need to find the best time to talk to your family. Do not ask them when they are cooking dinner or working on their laptops. Wait until they are sitting on the sofa and feeling relaxed. Tell them your ideas clearly. Remember, they might not say yes immediately. They usually need a few days to think about your plans. Give them some time and ask them again at the weekend.
Your Next Year
Choosing subjects is hard, so you should talk to your parents. They have a lot of experience and can help you. When you sit down together, ask them for their advice. Listen carefully to their words. Do they think a subject is too difficult? Tell them you will study hard. Sometimes, students want to choose a subject just because their best friend is doing it. You should not do this, and you should not use this as a reason when you speak to your parents!
