Learning on the way to school

Liam

My school is quite far from my house. I have to walk for forty minutes every morning. Because of this, I have a lot of time to listen to podcasts. I really like a Spanish podcast for beginners. I listen to it with my sister. We share a pair of headphones. The speaker tells funny stories and teaches us new words. Sometimes we say the words loudly while we are walking. People in the street look at us, but we do not mind!

Sofia

I only live a few streets away from my school. My walk is very short, so I can never finish a whole podcast in one morning. I listen to the first part of a science podcast on my way to school. Then, I finish it on my way home in the afternoon. When I arrive at my classroom, I quickly write down the most important facts in my notebook. My friends prefer listening to music, but I love learning about space and animals!

Noah

Last year, I always listened to pop songs on my way to school. But then my history teacher told me about a great podcast about kings and queens. Now, I listen to that every day! The streets near my home are very busy with cars and buses. It is very loud, so I bought some big headphones. Now I can hear the stories perfectly. The podcast is so interesting that I sometimes do not want to take my headphones off when school starts!

    Tips for doing your homework

    Leave it in another room

When you do your homework, your phone shouldn't be on your desk. Every time it makes a noise, you will want to look at it. The best thing you can do is leave your mobile in another room. Ask your mum or dad to keep it for you in the kitchen. If you need the internet for your school project, you should use a computer, not your phone. You will finish your work much faster this way!

    Get a study app

It is hard not to look at your phone when your friends send you messages. But you can use technology to help you study. You can download a free app that stops other apps from working for an hour. It also turns off all the sounds on your phone. You won't know if someone likes your photo or sends a text. When you finish your maths or science homework, you can turn the apps back on and chat with everyone.

    Give yourself a prize

Studying for a long time can make you feel very tired. You should take short breaks to rest your head. Tell yourself that you must read your school books for thirty minutes without stopping. Put your phone inside your bag where you can't see it. After half an hour, you can take it out as a prize. You can play a quick game or watch a funny video for five minutes. Then, put it away again!

Favourite online platforms for school presentations

      Mateo

My favourite website for school presentations is SlideMaker. It is really great when I have to do homework with my classmates. We can all write on the same page from our own homes! The website has lots of beautiful photos you can use. Some of my friends always put videos in their presentations, but I never do this. It makes the pages open very slowly. I just use a simple white background with some nice pictures.

      Chloe

I love using a program called DesignTime for my school projects. Last year, I tried to use a different program, but it took too long to learn. DesignTime is much easier. It gives you great pages to start with, so you do not have to think about where to put your pictures and words. I also love finding cool music to play while my teacher reads my slides. My brother helps me sometimes, but I usually work alone.

      Ravi

When I make a presentation, I always use QuickSlides. You cannot choose from lots of different colours or cool letters, but that is fine with me. I just want my school work to look clean and easy to read. The best thing about QuickSlides is that it works really well on my mobile phone. I often finish my homework on the bus on my way to school. I do not need a computer at all!
