Using a nature app in the park
Leo
My friend told me about this amazing nature app, but I usually go to the park with my dad. I downloaded it to help me with my science homework. We have to learn about local animals. The app is perfect and never makes mistakes! Yesterday, I took a picture of a small blue bird. The app said it was a very unusual bird for this area. I was so surprised! I do not use the app for trees because I think birds are much more interesting.
Maya
I visit the park every Saturday with my best friend. We love checking the trees with our new app. You just take a photo of a leaf, and it tells you the name of the tree. However, it is not always right. Sometimes it gives us the wrong name! I know a lot about trees now, but I want to learn about birds too. I really hope to find an unusual bird one day, but I have only seen common ones so far.
Sam
I love looking for birds, but you have to wake up very early in the morning to see them. I always use a special app on my phone. I do not take photos of the birds. Instead, I record them singing. The app listens to the sound and tells me the bird's name! Every time I find a new bird, the app gives me points. It feels like a fun game. My science teacher likes the app too, but I just use it for fun.

Recycling your old smartphone
Getting it ready
Before you recycle your old smartphone, you must get it ready. First, you should ask your parents to help you. Together, you can save your favourite photos and important messages on a computer. After that, you must delete everything from the phone so nobody else can see your personal information. Finally, remember to open the phone and take out the small SIM card. You can put this card in your new phone to keep your phone number.
Where to take it
You cannot put an old phone in the normal rubbish bin at home. You need to find a special recycling centre in your town. You can use a computer to search online and find the nearest one to your house. Many large supermarkets also have green boxes near the door where you can leave old phones. Sometimes, mobile phone shops want old phones too. They will take your phone, and they might even pay you some cash!
Why it is important
Why do we recycle smartphones? Phones have batteries and other things inside them. If you put a phone in the ground, these things are very dangerous for the earth and the water. When you recycle your phone, workers take it apart safely. They take out the glass and metal to use again. These old pieces can become parts for a new laptop or a smart TV. Recycling is a great way to protect our beautiful planet!

Organizing our beach clean-up
Liam
I always wake up early on Saturday to check the beach. If there is lots of rubbish, I take photos on my phone. I send them to our neighbourhood chat group. When people see the dirty sand, they quickly come to help. Our team is growing, and we have more helpers now than last year! Before I leave my house, I eat a big breakfast. I also remember to take lots of large bags for everyone to use.
Emma
Our beach clean-up is always on a Sunday morning. I use the chat group to send a message to all our neighbours. I type the exact time we need to meet. My older brother helps me check the weather online first because we do not want to work in the rain. We often find many different things on the sand. When the beach is finally clean, I always organize a picnic. We sit together and share sandwiches!
Noah
I love helping my friends clean the beach. In the chat group, I always ask the adults to come. Sometimes we find very heavy things on the sand, like old wooden boats. I cannot move them alone, so the older neighbours help me. I also do an important job. I never put all the rubbish in one bin. I sort the plastic bottles from the glass and paper. At the end, people love taking photos of the beautiful beach.
