School Sports Day Races
The Fun Run
Do you want to run but do not like running fast? Then the Fun Run is for you! This race is two kilometres long around the school field. You do not need to run alone. You can run with a group of friends. Many students wear funny clothes for this race. You do not have to be the fastest to win. Everyone who finishes gets a nice school pen! Remember to sign up with your teacher before Friday.
The Sprint Championship
Are you the fastest student in the school? Join the Sprint Championship! This is a very short race, but you must run very quickly. It is only one hundred metres. You need to wear proper sports shoes for this event. We want to find the best runner in the school. The winner gets a big gold cup. You should practice running in the park before the sports day. Only students from Year 10 and 11 can join this race.
The Obstacle Course
This race is very different and a lot of fun! You have to run, climb over big boxes, and jump through cold water. It is a long race, so you must have a lot of energy. Please do not wear your best sports clothes! You will get very dirty. You can do this race alone, or you can help your friends finish it. The first student to finish will get a free ticket to the cinema.

Homework and Sports Training
Leo
I play football for my school team. We practise every afternoon from four until six o'clock. When I get home, I eat dinner with my family. After that, I have to do my homework. It is very hard because I am usually really tired. Sometimes I fall asleep at my desk! I love football, but school is important too. I plan to talk to my coach tomorrow. I will ask him if I can miss one practice a week to study.
Mia
I go swimming very early in the morning before school. I wake up at five o'clock! I am usually awake during my morning lessons, but I sometimes feel sleepy in the afternoon. I do not have time to do my homework in the evening. Because of this, I always read my school books on the bus. My mum is great. She helps me write a plan for the week so I can remember my homework and my swimming competitions.
Sam
My tennis club is quite far from my house. My training starts at seven o'clock in the evening. Last month, I had a big problem. I forgot to give my maths homework to my teacher because I was busy with a tennis match. Now, I always go to the school library when my lessons finish. I stay there and do all my homework before I take the train to my tennis club. I only play matches on Saturdays now.
Answer Key & Explanations
7 B - Reason: Text B says Mia reads her school books on the bus. (Text C uses a shared word trap by mentioning a "train", but Sam does not study on it).
8 C - Reason: Text C says Sam forgot to give his maths homework to his teacher last month.
9 A - Reason: Text A says Leo will ask his coach if he can miss one practice a week.
10 C - Reason: Text C says Sam does his homework in the library before he takes the train to the club. (Text A uses a time trap by saying Leo does his homework after his practice).
11 B - Reason: Text B says Mia's mum helps her write a plan for the week. (Text A uses a shared word trap by saying Leo eats dinner with his "family").
12 A - Reason: Text A says Leo has to do his homework after dinner and it is hard because he is tired. (Text B uses a partial match trap by saying Mia feels "sleepy", but this happens in the afternoon, not at night).
13 C - Reason: Text C says Sam's tennis club is quite far from his house.

What to do if you catch a cold
Rest at home
If you have a bad cold, you must stay at home. Do not come to school because you will feel worse. Your body needs a lot of sleep to get better. You can read a book or watch a film in bed. You should not play football or go running until you are completely well. If you feel very hot or have a headache, ask your parents for some medicine. You will feel stronger in a few days.
Food and drink
What you eat and drink is very important when you are ill. You need to drink a lot of water every day. Hot drinks like tea with honey are great for your throat. It is also a good idea to eat warm food, like chicken soup. You should eat plenty of fresh fruit, especially oranges, because they help you fight the cold. Do not eat ice cream or cold sweets right now. Save those for when you are healthy again!
Keep others safe
When you have a cold, you can easily give it to other people. Wash your hands with warm water and soap often. Always use a paper tissue when you sneeze, and then put it in the bin quickly. You should stay in your bedroom. Your parents can bring meals to you. Do not play games with your baby brother or visit older people, like your grandparents. Colds are very dangerous for them.
