Playground Sports: How to Warm Up
The Running Warm-up
Do you like running fast in the playground? Before you begin, you must always prepare your body. Do not run fast immediately. First, walk slowly around the playground for five minutes. This helps your breathing. Next, stand still and move your legs up and down. This will make your legs feel warm and strong. Some students think they do not need to do this. But if you do not prepare, your legs might hurt later.
The Ball Game Warm-up
If you want to play basketball or football with your friends, you need a good warm-up. You must prepare your whole body, not just your legs. Put your arms out straight and make big circles with them. Do this ten times to help your shoulders. Then, jump up and down to get lots of energy. You can even do this with your team! It is a fun way to start your game and nobody will feel tired too fast.
The Stretching Warm-up
Are you going to do gymnastics or play games on the grass? You need to stretch your body first. Find a quiet place in the playground to begin. Stand tall and slowly turn your neck from left to right. Then, try to touch your toes with your hands. You should hold your body still for ten seconds when you do this. Many students like to listen to music on their phones while they do these exercises.

The Big Tennis Match
Alex
I always feel sick on the morning of a big tennis match. Today, I do not want to eat my breakfast. My stomach hurts too much! To stop feeling worried, I always put on my lucky blue socks. They help me feel brave. My friends gave them to me! The waiting is the hardest part. I feel terrible before I walk onto the court. But when the match begins, I forget my worries and just have fun playing.
Ben
I have a really important tennis match this afternoon. Last night, I stayed at the tennis club until it was dark because I wanted to practice more. Now I feel very tired. I listened to some music in bed, but I could not sleep well. My mum and dad told me to just do my best and have fun. They said I should not worry about winning. Next time, I will not play tennis the day before a big game!
Charlie
I am playing against a boy from another school today, and he is a brilliant tennis player. I am quite worried because my whole class is coming to watch us. I really do not want to play badly in front of them! To help me relax, I am sitting in my bedroom and listening to my favourite pop songs. I felt a bit sick earlier, but I still ate a big breakfast. I hope I play well!

School Water Campaign: Drink More!
Stay Smart
Do you feel tired in your afternoon lessons? Your brain needs a lot of water to work well. If you do not drink enough, you cannot listen to the teacher. You might also get a bad headache. You should drink a glass of water before your first class. Then, have some more water during your break. This will help you understand your school subjects better. Remember, sweet drinks like juice or cola do not help your brain. Pure water is always the best choice for students!
Stay Active
Do you love playing football or running in your PE lessons? When you do sports, your body gets very warm. You lose a lot of water. It is very important to drink cold water when you finish playing. Cold water cools your body down quickly. You should also drink some water before you start a game. Sometimes, you do not feel thirsty, but your body still needs water. Keep a drink next to the sports field so you can get it easily during the match.
Stay Green
We want all students to bring a plastic or metal water bottle from home. You do not need to buy expensive bottles of water from the school shop. You can keep your money!
