Noisy Weekends at the Mall

Alex

I went to the shopping mall on Saturday to buy a birthday present for my dad. It was a terrible idea! There were people everywhere. When I was hungry, I went to the cafe to get a burger. I stood there for ten minutes with my food, but there were no empty tables. I had to eat outside in the cold! In the end, I was so tired of the crowds that I went home without getting my dad's gift. I will make him something instead.

Bella

My mum and I visited the big shopping centre on Sunday morning. We wanted to look at some new winter coats. I could not believe how noisy it was! Every clothes shop played very loud pop music. We could not hear each other speak. It was much worse than the quiet cinema we usually go to. After an hour, my mum got a bad pain in her head from all the noise. We decided to leave early and buy our coats online from home.

Charlie

I met my friends at the shopping mall last weekend. We just wanted to watch a funny movie. The cinema was full of people. We stood in a line for thirty minutes just to buy our tickets! Later, we wanted to get some pizza, but the restaurant was too loud. I hate going to the mall on Saturdays and Sundays. I prefer visiting it on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening after school. It is much quieter then, and you can walk around easily.

    Reading Clothes Labels

    The Water Cup Symbol

Do you know what the little cup of water on your clothes label means? It tells you how hot the water should be. If you see a number like 30, you must wash your clothes in cool water. If the water is too hot, your favourite wool sweaters will become very small! Some labels have a hand picture inside the water cup. This means you cannot use a washing machine. You have to wash the clothes carefully in a sink.

    The Square Picture

After you wash your clothes, you need to dry them. Look for a square on the label. If the square has a circle inside, you can use a drying machine. But be careful! If there is a big 'X' over the square and circle, a machine will ruin your clothes. You must hang them outside in the fresh air instead. Hanging your clothes outside is free, and it is a great way to keep your big T-shirts the right size.

    The Iron Symbol

Sometimes your clothes look messy after you wash them. The label has a picture of an iron to help you. If the iron has one dot inside, it must not be very hot. Two or three dots mean you can use a hotter temperature. If you see an 'X' over the iron, you must never iron that piece of clothing. You might burn a hole in it! Always ask your parents to help you use this machine because it is dangerous.

           A Lucas   B Sofia   C Mateo

One expensive shirt or three cheap ones?

      Lucas

I always choose one expensive shirt. If you buy three cheap shirts, they usually break after a few weeks. A good, expensive shirt stays nice for a long time. I think buying lots of cheap clothes is very bad for the planet. People throw them in the bin too quickly. I prefer having a small wardrobe with just a few beautiful things. My friends like buying lots of new clothes every weekend, but I think that is a waste of money.

      Sofia

I prefer buying three cheap shirts instead of one expensive one. I get bored easily, so I love wearing different colours every day. If I only have one nice shirt, I have to wash it all the time! Cheap shirts are great because my sister and I wear the same size. We always swap our clothes, so it feels like I have hundreds of shirts. My mum only buys expensive clothes, but I just want my wardrobe to be full of fun things.

      Mateo

I usually buy cheap clothes for my daily life. I play a lot of football and basketball, so my shirts get dirty very quickly. It is silly to wear an expensive shirt for sports! But for special days, like a family party, I prefer to wear one really nice shirt. I get pocket money every week, and I keep it in a box for months to buy something famous and expensive. I feel amazing when I finally put it on.
