Feeling jealous of other artists

Toby

I love drawing cartoons. My best friend Mark also draws, but his pictures are amazing. He always wins the school art competitions. In the past, I felt very jealous. I tried to copy his style, but my drawings looked terrible. Then, my teacher told me something important. She said my cartoons are very funny and they make people smile. Now, I do not care about winning prizes. I just enjoy my own special way of drawing, and Mark loves my funny characters!

Sara

I spend all my free time painting pictures of animals. I always thought I was the best artist in my house. But my little sister started painting last year, and she is brilliant at it! At first, I felt quite sad and jealous. It is hard when someone younger is better than you. But then I decided to watch her paint. She mixes colours beautifully. I asked her to help me, and now my pictures look much better. We even paint together at the weekend.

Leo

I really like drawing people's faces. I practice every day. But a new boy joined our class this term, and he draws faces perfectly. They look exactly like real photographs! When I saw his art, I felt so jealous. I put my pencils away and decided to stop drawing forever. But yesterday, the new boy looked at my sketchbook. He said my drawings were fantastic and asked me to sit with him in art class. I felt very happy, and I started drawing again immediately.

    How to Encourage Tired Players

    Taking a Break

When your players feel tired, they need to stop for a minute. You can ask the coach to bring a new player onto the field. Then, your tired teammate can sit on the grass and drink some water. It is important to give their legs a rest. After a short break, they will have more energy to play again. Do not make them run if they feel weak. A good captain knows when their team needs to rest.

    Friendly Words

Sometimes players are tired because the game is very fast. You must use your voice to help them. Tell them they are doing a great job. When they hear nice words, they often feel stronger. You can give them a big smile or hold their hand for a second. Never shout at a player when they are slow. Remind your team about the times they played well in the past. This makes everyone feel happy and ready to try.

    A Different Job

If your teammate runs too much, they will get tired quickly. You can easily help them by changing their place on the field. Ask them to play at the back near the goalkeeper. This is an easier job because they do not have to run fast all the time. They can stay in one area and pass the ball to others. You should give the hard jobs to the players who still have lots of energy.

Loud music makes us feel better

      Ryan

When I have a terrible day at school, I go straight to my bedroom and close the door. I turn on my favourite rock music very loudly. I never wear headphones because they always hurt my ears after a few minutes. I stand in the middle of the room and pretend to play the guitar. Playing my "air guitar" and hearing the loud guitars makes me forget all my problems. After half an hour, I usually feel much happier and ready to do my homework.

      Zara

If I feel angry or upset, sitting still is the worst thing for me. I always connect my phone to a big speaker that my dad gave me for my birthday. I put on loud, fast dance music. Then, I start cleaning my bedroom. Moving around fast to the loud music helps me feel good again. Sometimes my dog comes into the room and I dance with him! When my room is tidy and the music stops, I always feel completely relaxed.

      Finn

Sometimes I get upset because I have a problem with my friends. When this happens, I put on my headphones and play pop music as loud as possible. I do not stay in the house. I always go for a long walk in the park near my home. Looking at the trees and listening to the loud songs stops me from thinking about my worries. I usually sing the words very quietly to myself. When I return home, I feel ready to smile again.

      Answer Key & Explanations

7 B - Reason: Zara says, "Then, I start cleaning my bedroom." Ryan talks about homework, not cleaning.

8 C - Reason: Finn says, "I do not stay in the house. I always go for a long walk in the park."

9 B - Reason: Zara connects her phone to a "big speaker that my dad gave me for my birthday."

10 A - Reason: Ryan says he never wears headphones because "they always hurt my ears". Finn wears headphones, but he likes them.

11 C - Reason: Finn says he gets upset because "I have a problem with my friends." Ryan mentions a bad day at school, but not friends.

12 A - Reason: Ryan says he likes to "pretend to play the guitar."

13 B - Reason: Zara says, "Sometimes my dog comes into the room and I dance with him!"
