Too many group projects!

Liam

I have three group projects this week. It is really hard because we all have different things to do after school. Some people have football practice, so we cannot easily find time to meet. I feel very worried about these projects. I do not want to get a bad mark and make my team sad. I try to read my books every night, but I am very tired. I hope we can finish everything on time. Next week, I just want to sleep!

Chloe

I like working with my friends, but this week is too much. We have to make a poster for art and a map for geography. The problem is that some students in my group do not finish their parts. So, I have to do their work for them because I want a good mark. I am spending all my evenings on these projects. I really love drawing cartoons in my bedroom, but I have no free time for that at the moment.

Noah

Right now, I am in a science group and a history group. Having two big projects at the same time is confusing. Yesterday, I wrote about plants in my history notebook! I felt really stressed, so I talked to my dad. He told me to write down everything I need to do on a piece of paper. This helps me remember what to do first. Now I know exactly what I must finish today, and I feel much better about my schoolwork.

Answer Key & Explanations

7 B - Reason: Chloe says that she has "to do their work for them because I want a good mark."

8 A - Reason: Liam says he is worried because he does not want to "make my team sad."

9 C - Reason: Noah explains that he felt stressed, so he "talked to my dad" for advice.

10 A - Reason: Liam says that because everyone is busy, "we cannot easily find time to meet."

11 C - Reason: Noah got confused and "wrote about plants in my history notebook!"

12 B - Reason: Chloe says she loves drawing cartoons, but she has "no free time for that at the moment."

13 C - Reason: Noah's dad told him to "write down everything... on a piece of paper" and Noah says this helps him remember.

How to ask your teacher for help

    During the Lesson

Sometimes a lesson is very hard. You must not wait a long time to get help. If you wait, you will forget your question. You should put your hand up and ask the teacher immediately. Do not feel shy. The teacher wants to help you learn. If you do not want to speak in front of the class, you can write a short note on a piece of paper. You can give this paper to the teacher when they walk around the room.

    Group Work

It can be scary to ask the teacher a question alone. When you work in small groups, you can talk to your classmates. You can ask a friend to explain the lesson to you first. Maybe your friend understands it well. If you and your friend both need help, you can go to the teacher's desk together. It is always easier to speak to the teacher when you have a classmate with you. The teacher will be happy to explain it again.

    After Class

You can always ask your teacher for help when the lesson finishes. When the other students leave the room, you can walk up to the teacher's desk and ask your question quietly. You can also go home and look at your school books again. If you still do not understand the lesson, you can use your computer. You can write a polite email to your teacher. They can read your message and help you in the next lesson.

    Answer Key & Explanations

7 B - Reason: Group Work says, "you can go to the teacher's desk together" and "when you have a classmate with you."

8 A - Reason: During the Lesson says, "you can write a short note on a piece of paper."

9 B - Reason: Group Work says, "You can ask a friend to explain the lesson to you first."

10 C - Reason: After Class says, "you can use your computer" to "write a polite email to your teacher."

11 A - Reason: During the Lesson says, "You must not wait a long time to get help."

12 C - Reason: After Class tells you to "go home and look at your school books again."

13 C - Reason: After Class says you can ask your question "When the other students leave the room".

      Why we like studying together

      Leo

I always feel worried before maths exams. Sometimes I do not understand our teacher because he talks very fast. But when I study with my friend Tom, everything is easier. We meet at the library after school. We look at our notes and I can ask him questions. He is very clever and he explains things slowly. I never feel nervous when he helps me. After we finish studying, we usually play football in the park to relax.

      Sara

Studying alone in my bedroom makes me feel stressed. I usually start looking at my phone and forget to read my books! Now, I invite two friends to my house every Tuesday. We sit at the kitchen table and write a plan for our homework. We also share big bowls of fruit and biscuits. When we work together, I do not play games on my phone. We talk about the difficult subjects and I always feel much happier.

      Ben

I think studying for tests is boring and scary. I can never remember important dates or new French words. Last month, my classmate Alex asked me to study with him. We make small cards with questions and answers on them. Then, we test each other. It is really fun and it feels like a game! If I give the wrong answer, we just laugh. I am not afraid of tests now because I know I can remember the information.
