Recommending your favourite novels for the reading club

The Online Club Page

Welcome to our online reading club page! We want you to recommend your favourite novels here. It is very easy to do. Just type the name of the book and write a few sentences about the story. You do not have to write a long text. Other students will read your ideas and vote for the best ones. The book with the most votes will be our next club novel. You can use this website at home on your computer or phone.

The Library Noticeboard

Do you have a great novel to share? Come to the school library and look for our big green noticeboard. You can take a piece of paper and write why you love your favourite book. We also want you to draw a picture of the book cover! When you finish, put the paper on the board. Every month, the librarian will choose the most interesting paper. The winner gets a free book to keep. Please do not write about comic books here.

The Friday Book Meeting

Join us every Friday afternoon in classroom 4B for our reading club. We want you to bring a novel that you really enjoyed reading. You can hold the book and tell the group about your favourite characters. It is a great way to practice speaking in front of people! You do not need to write anything or use a computer. After everyone finishes talking, you can exchange books with your friends and take a new story home for the weekend.

Using video skills for a history project

    Leo

For my history project, I wanted to make a video about an old king. I asked my mum to make some old-fashioned clothes for me. I wore them and acted in the video. We went to a real castle near my house to film it on my phone. It was going really well, but then it started raining heavily. We had to stop and finish the video the next day! I think the video looks great.

    Maya

My history video is about school life fifty years ago. I decided to talk to my grandfather about his school days. I filmed him answering my questions in his living room. He also gave me some black and white photos of his old teachers to show in the video. I had to learn how to use a new video program to put the pictures and the talking together. It took a long time, but I love it.

    Toby

I love drawing, so I made a cartoon video about a famous fight from the past. I drew all the soldiers on my tablet. My best friend Sam helped me by speaking like the different people in the story. It was fun to make, but writing the story before we started filming was very hard. You have to make sure all the facts are right! I am very happy with our work.

      Organising a classroom movie afternoon

      Choosing the movie

If you want to have a movie afternoon, you must talk to your teacher first. They can tell you which days are free. Next, you need to find a good film. Do not just choose your favourite movie. It is a good idea to write three film names on the board and ask the class to vote. Then everyone will be happy. You should also check the film is not too long. You need to finish it before the school day ends!

      Preparing the classroom

Classroom chairs are not very good for watching long films. You can ask students to bring pillows or blankets from home. This makes the room feel much more comfortable! Before the movie starts, remember to close the curtains so the room is dark. It is also very important to test the computer and speakers. Do this before the other students come inside. You do not want to stop the film because the sound is broken. Enjoy the show!

      Food and drink

A movie afternoon is not complete without things to eat! You can ask everyone to bring a different snack to share. Please remember that some students cannot eat nuts, so do not bring any food with nuts inside. You can also buy big bottles of juice for the class. When the movie finishes, you have to leave the classroom clean. Make sure you put all the empty bottles and sweet papers in the bin before you go home.

12 C - Reason: Text C tells you "do not bring any food with nuts inside".

13 B - Reason: Text B says you should "close the curtains so the room is dark".
