Choosing an e-book reader

ScreenSmart

Do you love reading in bed? This reader has a very special screen. You can read your favourite stories late at night when there are no lamps on. The battery is great too. You can use the device for a whole month before you charge it again. It is a bit heavy, so you cannot carry it easily. It is expensive, but it is very good.

BookBuddy

This is the cheapest reader in the shops today, so it is perfect if you do not have much pocket money. It is very light and thin, so you can easily slide it into your jeans. Do you like reading next to the water? You can take this device to the swimming pool or the beach. It does not stop working if it gets wet. However, you must turn on a light to read at night.

PocketReader

This reader is excellent for students. When you turn it on for the first time, you will find thirty classic books inside. You can read them immediately without paying anything extra! If the text is too small for your eyes, you can change it quickly. You can make the text much larger so it is easy to read. The battery only lasts for two days, so remember to charge it often.

    Following digital artists online

    Liam

My favourite digital artist is called StarDraw. He uses a computer to paint amazing pictures of comic book heroes. I really love his work, so I bought some of his posters and stickers for my bedroom wall. Last week, I tried to paint a picture of a superhero just like him. It was not easy, and mine looked terrible! StarDraw makes it look so simple. I hope he makes a video about how he paints his heroes soon.

    Chloe

I love following an artist called PixelGirl on the internet. She does not just draw pictures. She makes short, funny cartoons that move. I watch her new videos every Friday after school. She shows her followers how to use a computer drawing program. Because of her, I am getting much better at making my own art. She often travels to different countries for big art shows. I really want to go to one and meet her next year.

    Noah

I always look at the pictures on a website by an artist named GreenBrush. She loves nature and only draws wild animals like bears and tigers. Her pictures look like real photos. I draw animals too, but I only use pencils. Last month, I wrote an email to her and said how much I like her art. I was so happy when she wrote back to me! She said thank you and told me to keep drawing.

    Answer Key & Explanations

7 C - Reason: Noah says he wrote an email to his favourite artist and "she wrote back to me".

12 B - Reason: Chloe watches her artist's videos to learn and says "Because of her, I am getting much better at making my own art."

13 C - Reason: Noah says his favourite artist "loves nature and only draws wild animals".

      Make a Stop-Motion Video!

      Getting Ready

Before you make your movie, you need a good plan. First, write down your ideas. What will happen? It is hard to change things later. Next, find a good place in your house to work. You need to see everything clearly. If your room is dark, bring some desk lamps. You don't need a very expensive camera, just your smartphone. It is a good idea to find a box to put your phone on, so it is ready for the next step.

      Taking Photos

Now it is time to make the video! Put your toys on the table. You must keep your phone completely still. If your hands shake, your movie will look bad. Take one photo of your toys. Then, move the toys a very small amount and take another photo. You have to repeat this many times. Remember, you need about ten photos for just one second of video. Do not play any music yet, because you need to focus on taking the pictures.

      Finishing the Movie

You have all your photos, but it is not a movie yet. You need to download a free app on your phone. This program joins all your pictures together quickly. Now you can make it fun! The app lets you talk over the video or add a great song. Your toys will look like they are dancing! When you finish your video, you can send it in an email or put it online. Then everyone in your family can watch your hard work.

      Answer Key & Explanations

7 A - Reason: Text A advises you to "write down your ideas" and plan "What will happen?" before starting.

8 B - Reason: Text B tells you that you "must keep your phone completely still."

9 C - Reason: Text C says the app lets you "add a great song." Text B has a negative trap telling you not to play music yet.

10 B - Reason: Text B explains that you should "move the toys a very small amount."

11 C - Reason: Text C says you can "put it online" so "everyone in your family can watch."

12 A - Reason: Text A says "If your room is dark, bring some desk lamps."

13 B - Reason: Text B states that you "need about ten photos for just one second of video." Text C has a trap mentioning having "all your photos", but does not talk about needing a large number.
