Reading adventure books at the beach

Lucas

I love going to the beach in the summer. I always bring my small tablet to read exciting adventure stories. My favourite stories are about pirates and sailing on the sea. I like reading on a screen because I can carry many books at the same time. However, there is one problem. When the sun is very bright, it is hard to see the words on my tablet. I usually have to wear my sunglasses or wait until the late afternoon to read.

Nina

Sitting on the sand with a good adventure book is my favourite weekend activity. I only read real paper books. I don't read stories about the ocean. Instead, I love reading about brave explorers in big mountains and dark forests! I really enjoy hearing the loud waves hit the beach while I turn the pages. The only bad thing is the sand. It gets inside the pages and sometimes my book gets a bit wet. It is not easy to keep it nice and clean!

Oscar

I read a lot of adventure comic books when I visit the beach with my family. I do not buy them from a shop. I always get them from the local library in my town. The beach is a great place to read, but it is also very relaxing. I usually sit on a comfortable towel under a big beach umbrella. After I read a few pages of my book, I often close my eyes and sleep for an hour. It is the best feeling!

Advice on how to ask local people for permission before taking their photo

    Smiling and Pointing

When you travel to a new country, you often want to take photos of interesting people. But you might not speak their language. Do not worry! You can easily ask them with your hands and face. First, give the person a big smile. Then, hold up your camera or phone and point to it. Look at them and wait. If they smile back and agree, you can take your picture. Always remember to say thank you in their language!

    Sharing the Picture

After someone agrees to a photo, you should try to show it to them. People usually love to see what they look like on a camera screen. Walk over to them and let them look at the picture. If they have a smartphone, you can ask for their email address or phone number. Then you can send the photo to them later. This is a very polite thing to do, and you might make a lovely new friend on your holiday!

    Walking Away

Sometimes, you will ask a person for a photo and they will say no. They might shake their head or put their hand in front of their face. You must always listen to them. Do not hide your camera and take a quick picture. This is very rude. Just smile, put your camera inside your bag, and walk away. There are lots of other beautiful things to take photos of, like old buildings, sweet food, and wild animals!

      Translating Japanese comic books

      Sam

I really love Japanese action comics. I buy them from a special bookshop in town. Because I cannot read Japanese, I use a great app on my phone. I just take a photo of the page with my camera. Then, the app changes the words to English! The app was not free, but I used my birthday money to get it. I usually sit on the sofa and read the comics with my older sister. We think they are amazing!

      Charlie

My uncle lives in Japan and he sends me funny comic books. To understand the stories, I use a free app on my tablet. I look at the Japanese letters and carefully type them into the app. It takes a long time, but I do not mind. I like doing it after dinner in my bedroom. When I finish reading a new book, I always give it to my best friend at school. We love talking about the funny characters.

      Alex

I read sports comics on my computer every weekend. They are all in Japanese. I found a clever translation app on the internet. I copy the words from the comic and put them in the app. Then, I press a button and listen to the app speak the words in English. This helps me understand the story fast. I even know how to say a few Japanese words now! I want to visit Tokyo one day and buy more books.
