Our Favourite Local Parks
Lucas
I live very close to the Green River Forest. I go there every Sunday with my grandfather. We love watching the little birds and insects together. He knows the names of all the different trees, and he teaches them to me. I always take my notebook and pencils with me. I love drawing the animals that we see. Sometimes, I run around the trees, but I must be quiet so the animals do not run away. It is my favourite place in the world.
Nina
The large park near my house is great for exercise. I am getting ready for a running race next month. I go to the park very early in the morning because it is beautiful and quiet. Later in the day, the park gets very noisy with families and young children. My brother sometimes wants to play football there, but I prefer to run alone. There are some nice benches under the trees, but I never sit down to read. I just want to run!
Arun
My town has a lovely little park. I usually go there in the afternoon when school finishes. I like to sit on the grass and read my favourite comic books. It helps me to relax after a long day of studying. The park is beautiful, but sometimes people leave empty bottles on the ground. Every Saturday, my friends and I spend two hours picking up the rubbish. We want to keep our park clean and safe for all the wild birds and animals.

Our Eco-Camp Needs You!
Forest Explorers
Are you interested in the animals that live in the woods? We want students who love looking for small insects under old pieces of wood. You must wear old clothes because you will get very dirty! We will eat our lunch in the forest every day. Please bring your camera because this camp is perfect for students who love taking photos of birds. Remember, we just watch the animals. We cannot take them home with us. Come and explore with us!
River Scientists
Do you want to know what lives in the water? We need busy students to help us clean the river. It is a big job, so you must enjoy working in large groups. We also need students who are good at building things. We will use small pieces of wood to make tiny boats. You can draw pictures of the fish we find. We hope for lots of sunny days, but we will test the water when it rains too!
Garden Farmers
This camp is for students who want to know how plants grow. You will spend all day in our big fruit and vegetable gardens. We need curious students who want to learn how the weather changes our plants. We study the rain and the sun. You will also learn how to cook great meals using the food we grow. On the last day, we give you a small plant to keep. You can grow it at home with your family!

Animals at the Rescue Centre
Leo
I volunteer at the rescue centre on Saturdays. I look after a beautiful dog called Max. He is only two years old, so he can run very fast across the grass! Max is a very big and heavy dog. I must hold him tightly when we walk. He has completely black fur, dark eyes, and a really long tail. Max is actually very quiet. He never makes loud sounds. I really love spending my weekend with him.
Sophie
I help out with the cats at the animal centre. My favourite is a cat named Bella. She has beautiful bright eyes. They are a lovely green colour. Bella is fifteen years old. This is quite old for a cat! She always moves very slowly and likes to sleep all day. She has clean white hair and a very short tail. She is quite small and not heavy at all. Bella is my best friend at the centre!
Mark
Every Sunday, I clean the cages for the birds. I always spend time with a parrot called Charlie. He is a baby bird, but he is already very clever. Charlie is wonderful because he has lots of different colours, like red, blue, and yellow. He doesn't have a short tail. His tail is actually very long! Charlie loves talking and singing, so he makes loud sounds all day. His eyes are small and dark. He is a fantastic bird.
Answer Key & Explanations
7 A - Reason: Leo says that Max is a "very big and heavy dog". Text B has a trap because Sophie says her cat is "not heavy at all".
8 C - Reason: Mark describes Charlie the parrot as having "lots of different colours, like red, blue, and yellow". Text A has a trap because Max is only one colour (black).
9 B - Reason: Sophie says that Bella is fifteen, which is "quite old for a cat". Text C has a trap because Mark looks after a "baby bird".
10 C - Reason: Mark says that Charlie the parrot "makes loud sounds all day". Text A has a trap because Leo's dog is "very quiet" and never makes loud sounds.
11 A - Reason: Leo says that his dog Max can "run very fast". Text B has a negative trap because Sophie's cat moves "very slowly".
12 B - Reason: Sophie says that Bella has "beautiful bright eyes". Both Text A and Text C have traps because they mention their animals have "dark" eyes.
13 B - Reason: Sophie describes Bella as having a "very short tail". Text C has a trap because Mark says Charlie "doesn't have a short tail".
