Choosing a desk partner
Leo
I want to sit next to my friend Ben. He is very quiet in class, and I really need that. I love my best friend Charlie, but we talk too much when we sit together. Then the teacher gets angry with us. Ben is also very clever. He is brilliant at maths. I find numbers difficult, so he often shows me how to do the work. It is much better for me to sit with Ben this year.
Sara
I hope I can sit next to Anna. School is sometimes boring, but Anna is very funny. She always tells great stories and makes me smile. Also, I often forget to bring my pencil case to school. Anna always brings lots of pens and pencils, and she is happy to give me one. My sister is in my class too, but she never shares her things with me. Sitting next to Anna makes my school days much happier.
Toby
This year, I want to sit next to a new boy called Marco. Last year, I sat next to my older brother. He was very quiet and just did his work. Marco is from Spain, and I want to learn about his country. I love travelling and hearing about different places. My friends think I should sit with them, so we can play games on our phones. School Workshops: Solving Arguments Peacefully
Listen First
Do you often argue with your friends? This workshop teaches you how to be a good listener. When a classmate is angry, you must look at them and stay quiet. You will learn what to do when someone else is talking to you. In the class, you will sit with a partner. You will practice listening to each other carefully. You must not speak at the same time. It is important to understand your friend's problem before you share your own ideas.
Cooling Down
Sometimes we feel very angry during an argument. In this workshop, you will learn how to stop those bad feelings. The teacher will show you how to wait before you say anything to your classmate. You will learn some special ways to breathe and relax your body. You do not need to talk about your problems here. Instead, we will give you paper and pens. You will make pictures to show how you feel inside. This is a very peaceful class.
Finding Words
It is easy to shout when we do not agree with our classmates. This workshop will help you learn how to speak in a quiet voice. You will learn how to choose polite words so you do not hurt your friends. If you make a mistake and say something bad, do not worry. We will also show you how to write a short letter to say sorry. This class will help you feel much more happy when you talk to others.

Missing friends during the summer holidays
Leo
I am on holiday with my parents in another country. It is beautiful here, but I really miss my friends back home. We usually play football in the park every afternoon during the summer. I want to play with them now! I try to call my best friend on my computer, but the internet at our hotel is very bad. The screen often freezes, so we just write short messages to each other. I will be happy to see everyone again next month.
Mia
This summer, I am staying at home. My problem is that all my close friends went away to summer camps for six weeks. They are very busy doing fun activities, so they do not text me much. Because I am bored, I decided to start a new hobby. I bought a guitar and I practice playing it every day. I cannot wait to show my friends what I can play when they come back. Until then, I just watch movies and read books alone.
Toby
I do not have much free time this summer because I have a part-time job. I work in my uncle's café from morning until late afternoon. By the time I finish, I am too tired to go out. I really miss spending time with my friends. They often go to the beach or the cinema without me. To stay in touch, I take lots of photos of the funny cakes at the café and send them to my friends. They always send nice messages back.
