After-school photography club

Phone Photography

Do you love taking photos of your friends but do not have a real camera? Join our Phone Photography group! You do not have to buy expensive equipment. We will show you how to take beautiful pictures of your classmates using just your mobile phone. We meet every Tuesday after school in the library. Sometimes we go outside to the school yard to take photos, but we never meet at the weekend. Come and learn simple ways to make your pictures look great!

Nature Explorers

Are you interested in animals and plants? The Nature Explorers group is for you! We spend a lot of our time outside the classroom. We will teach you how to catch the best light when you take pictures of birds and trees. You will need a digital camera for this group. We meet for a short time on Thursdays, but our real fun happens when we go on long walks together every Saturday. It is a great way to get fresh air and take amazing photos.

Computer Artists

Do you want to know what to do after you take a photo? In the Computer Artists group, we use computers to change and fix pictures. You will learn how to make colours brighter and add fun words to your images. We do not go outside to take photos. Instead, we stay inside and use our computers to make posters for school sports days and music concerts. If you want other students to see your art, join us on Wednesday afternoons!

    Our favorite art projects

    Tom

My favourite art project was painting a big picture of a beach. We used real paint, and it was great fun. I didn't wear an apron, so I got lots of blue and yellow paint on my school shirt! My mum wasn't happy about that. But when I brought the picture home, I gave it to my dad for his birthday. He really loved it. I usually paint by myself, so I didn't work with anyone else this time.

    Sara

This year, we made models from plastic boxes and old bottles. My teacher told us to bring these things from our kitchens. I worked with my friend Lily. We built a tall tower together. It was not a fast project! We spent four weeks building it during our art classes. I wanted to paint it, but we didn't have time. My little brother wants to play with it now, but I left my model at school.

    Ben

I loved our photography project best. We could not stay in the classroom, so we walked around the school garden to take photos of trees and flowers. I used my mobile phone. After that, we made a big poster with all the pictures. I didn't know how to print my photos, so Mr. Clark, our teacher, showed me what to do. I wanted to show my parents the poster, but it must stay on the classroom wall until next month.

Advice on using drawing for biology facts

      Keeping it simple

When you study biology, you have to remember lots of information about plants and animals. Drawing pictures is a great way to help your memory. You do not need to be a fantastic artist to do this. Just draw simple lines and shapes. If you draw a bird or a leaf, do not worry if it looks a bit funny. The important thing is that the picture helps you understand the lesson. You can use a pencil and a large piece of paper.

      Adding colours and words

After you finish your simple drawing, it is a good idea to add some colour. You can use red, blue, or green pens for different parts of a plant or animal. This makes your picture look nice, but it also helps your brain remember the information. You should also write short words next to your drawings. Do not write long sentences from your science book. Just put the most important names next to the correct parts of your picture.

      Using your drawings

Now you have some great biology pictures, but what should you do with them? Do not leave them in your desk! You can put them on the wall in your bedroom. This means you will see them every day when you wake up. When you have a science test, look at your drawings again. It is much faster than reading a long book. You can even show your pictures to a classmate and talk about them together.
