Getting our report cards
Toby
I always feel sick when report cards come. In my school, the teachers send them to our parents in an email. I was very worried this year. I like most of my subjects, but I did not do much homework for maths. I knew my mark for that class was going to be bad. But my mum and dad are very kind. They never shout at me when I get a bad grade. They just tell me to try harder next time.
Sita
Getting my report card is the most stressful day of the year. We still get ours in a paper envelope, and my hands shake when I open it. My older sister always gets the best marks in her class, so I want to be like her. That makes me very nervous! This year, I really wanted to do well because my parents promised to buy me a new bicycle. I was so happy when I saw my high grades!
Lucas
I am a good student, so I do not worry about my grades. I study a lot every evening. But I was still stressed before I got my report card this week. Why? Because I sit next to my best friend in class, and we often speak when the teacher is talking. I was afraid that my history teacher was going to write something bad about my behaviour. Luckily, he only wrote that I am a happy and friendly boy!

Making friends in after-school clubs
Sports Club
Welcome to the Sports Club! It is easy to make friends when you play in a team. You should arrive a few minutes before the games start. This gives you time to chat. If someone makes a mistake during a game, do not get angry. You should tell them it is okay and help them. This shows you are a kind person. Also, try to ask other students about their favourite teams. Everyone loves talking about sports! You will soon have lots of new friends here.
Art Club
In the Art Club, we love meeting new students! A great way to make friends is to bring some nice snacks to share. People always enjoy eating something sweet while they draw. When you sit next to someone, you must remember to smile. A friendly face makes others feel happy. You can also look at their picture and say something nice about it. If you draw something funny by mistake, just laugh about it together. Art is about having fun with others!
Music Club
The Music Club is a wonderful place to find new friends. You do not need to talk a lot to build great friendships here. When you play instruments together, you connect through the music. If you finish your practice early, you can help wash the cups or sweep the floor. Other students will see that you are a helpful person. We often have small parties after our music lessons. You should come to these! It is a great time to listen to your friends' stories.

Understanding difficult lessons
Leo
I always find maths hard. Sometimes, the numbers just jump around in my head! I often feel bad when I am the last person to finish the classroom exercises. But when I finally understand a new lesson, I feel amazing. The best part is that I can go home and explain it to my younger sister. She thinks I am really clever! My friends also ask me for help before our tests. It is a great feeling to know the right answers.
Mia
History is my most difficult subject. There are so many dates to remember! I usually feel worried when the teacher gives us homework on Fridays. I spend all Saturday thinking about it. But when I read the book carefully and suddenly understand the story, I am so happy. It means I can finish my homework quickly. Then, I have the whole weekend free to play basketball or go to the cinema with my friends. I don't have to think about school at all!
Sam
Learning French is not easy for me. I often forget the new words, and speaking in front of the class makes me nervous. My parents speak it well, but I need more time. However, when I understand a difficult grammar rule, I feel very proud. Last week, I watched a short French cartoon on my phone and understood everything! When I do well in class, my teacher always smiles and says 'Good job'. That makes me want to learn even more.
