Why we love charity shops

Lily

I love charity shops because you can find really unusual things. I hate wearing the same dresses or coats as the girls in my class. When I buy something from a charity shop, I know it is completely different. I also like making the clothes look new. I often cut long trousers to make summer shorts, or I paint pictures on old jackets. My mum says I spend too much time doing this, but it is my favourite hobby!

Omar

Charity shops are great because the clothes are so cheap. I really love finding sports shoes and T-shirts with famous names on them. In a normal shop, these cost a lot of money, but here I only pay a few pounds! I don't go shopping with my friends because they prefer going to the big shopping centre. Every month, I clean my bedroom and put my small, old clothes in a bag. Then, I take them to the charity shop for them to sell.

Chloe

I always go to charity shops on Saturdays with my two best friends. We spend hours trying on funny hats and big winter coats. I usually buy second-hand clothes because I want to help the planet. Throwing old clothes in the bin is really bad for the earth. Buying cheap clothes also means I have more cash in my pocket. I keep this money because I want to buy a new guitar, and music lessons are quite expensive!

    Donating Old Clothes

    School Clothes Drive

We are collecting old clothes for families in our town. Please wash everything at home before you bring it. It is best to use hot water so the clothes are very clean. Before you wash them, look inside the pockets. Please take out any money or old tickets! When the clothes are dry, put them in paper boxes. You should keep clothes for adults and clothes for children in different boxes. Bring your boxes to the school hall on Friday morning.

    Town Charity Shop

Do you have nice clothes that you do not wear? Our shop needs them! We sell old clothes to get money for the local hospital. Please wash your clothes in cold water to keep the colours bright. If a shirt has a missing button, please sew a new one on. We cannot sell broken clothes. Bring your clean clothes to our shop on High Street. Please do not leave plastic bags outside the door when the shop is closed.

    Winter Coat Box

The weather is getting cold, and many people need warm clothes. We are collecting thick jackets and winter jumpers this month. Please make sure they are completely clean. Please only give us perfect clothes because we cannot fix holes. Please fold the clothes nicely and put them inside strong plastic bags. This keeps them dry if it rains. You can drop your bags into the big green metal box outside the supermarket. You can do this at any time of day.

What we do with our old jeans

      Leo

I love summer, but I never buy new shorts. When my jeans get too short for me, I cut the bottoms off with scissors. Now, they are perfect for hot days! I also like to make them look cool. I use special paint to draw stars and animals on the pockets. Sometimes, my older brother gives me his old jeans to change. I wear my new shorts when I play football in the park. It is a great way to save pocket money.

      Maya

I do not throw my old jeans in the bin. Instead, I make them into beautiful bags! My grandmother showed me how to do this last year. She taught me how to use a needle and thread. I like to add colourful buttons to the front. I use my favourite bag every day to carry my books and pencil case to school. My friends always ask where I bought it. They are surprised when I tell them I made it from old trousers!

      Toby

I think people buy too many new clothes. This is very bad for the world. When my jeans have holes in them, I just fix them. I put small pieces of dark blue cloth over the holes. Also, if my older cousin gives me his old jeans and they are too big, I can change them. I know how to make the sides smaller. They always fit me perfectly, and my legs stay warm in the cold winter weather!
