Teenage Clothes and Bag Markets

Star Market

Welcome to Star Market! We are looking for young people to sell their handmade bags. Do you make cool bags from old jeans or T-shirts? Come and join us! We open every Sunday morning in the town square. You do not need to pay for a table, but you must book one on our website before you arrive. There is also a small cafe next to the market where you can buy hot drinks.

Riverside Market

Do you love making clothes? Riverside Market is the perfect place for teenagers to sell handmade sweaters, scarves, and warm hats. The market happens every Saturday afternoon next to the river. Lots of people come here to listen to local bands play live music while they shop. It is a very busy and noisy place! You must bring your own table and chairs to put your clothes on. See you there!

Sunnyside Market

Sunnyside Market is a special indoor event in the school sports hall. It happens on the first Saturday of every month. Teenagers can sell beautiful handmade T-shirts and summer dresses here. Many young people paint amazing pictures on their clothes. If you sell things at our market, you must give half of your money to the children's hospital. It is a great way to help sick people and show your fantastic art to the town!

Answer Key & Explanations

7 C - Reason: Sunnyside Market says you must "give half of your money to the children's hospital." Star Market has a trap saying you "do not need to pay for a table".

8 C - Reason: Sunnyside Market is an "indoor event in the school sports hall." The other markets are outside in the "town square" and "next to the river."

9 B - Reason: Riverside Market says "You must bring your own table and chairs". Star Market has a trap because it gives you a table for free.

10 A - Reason: Star Market says "We open every Sunday morning". Both Riverside Market and Sunnyside Market happen on Saturdays.

11 B - Reason: Riverside Market says people come to "listen to local bands play live music".

12 A - Reason: Star Market asks if you make bags from "old jeans or T-shirts". Sunnyside Market has a trap about clothes, but teenagers paint on them rather than use old ones to make new things.

13 A - Reason: Star Market says "you must book one on our website before you arrive."

    Sharing Jackets with Our Siblings

    Alex

My older brother loves buying clothes. When his jackets are too small for him, he gives them to me. It is great because I do not need to spend my pocket money on new coats. I can use my money to buy video games instead! Sometimes, his jackets are dark colours, and I prefer bright clothes like red or yellow. But I wear them anyway because they are very warm in the winter.

    Sam

My sister and I are the same age and size. We share a big, expensive winter coat. We bought it together last year. She paid half the money, and I paid the other half. It is a fantastic coat, but there is one problem. When it is very cold outside, we both want to wear it to school! We sometimes argue about it. But sharing means we have less clothing in our small bedroom.

    Charlie

My younger brother is very tall. He is actually taller than me! I often borrow his sports jackets to wear to school. He plays a lot of football and has many cool jackets. I usually ask him before I take them. Our parents are very happy about this. They say clothes are very expensive, so it is good that we do not ask them for new ones. Next month, I will buy a jacket and share it with him.

    Answer Key & Explanations

7 B - Reason: Text B says that they bought the coat together and "She paid half the money, and I paid the other half."

10 A - Reason: Text A says that the jackets are dark colours but Alex prefers "bright clothes like red or yellow."

      Making Cleaning Cloths

      Step 1: Getting Ready

First, find some old, dirty T-shirts that you cannot wear anymore. Put them on a big table. You should sort them into groups of light and dark colours. This is very important. Next, you need some good scissors to cut the material. Cut the T-shirts into large squares. If the shirts have any hard buttons or plastic pictures on them, you must take them off. You only want the soft material. Now you are ready for the next step!

      Step 2: Making them Strong

Some T-shirts are very thin. A thin cloth is not good for cleaning your bedroom. To fix this, you can join two pieces of material. You will need a large needle and some strong cotton to do this. Put one square of material on top of another square. Sew the sides together carefully. This will make your new cloth thicker and much stronger. It is a bit of hard work, but your new cleaning cloth will last for a very long time!

      Step 3: Using and Storing

Now you have your new cleaning cloths! It is a good idea to use different colours for different rooms. For example, use the dark cloths for the kitchen and the light ones for the bathroom. After you use them to clean the dirty floors, you must wash them. Put them in the washing machine with hot water. When they are dry, you should fold them nicely. Keep them in a small box under the sink so they are easy to find.
