Jewelry Making Workshops

Silver Stars

Are your old metal rings and bracelets broken? Do not throw them away! In this morning workshop, our teachers will show you how to fix your jewelry. You will also learn how to use tools to cut and shape wire. The machines can be dangerous, so you must bring special glasses to keep your eyes safe. We provide all the tools you need. You can make your rings look completely new again. Tickets cost £5. We hope to see you there!

Nature Gems

If you love spending time outside, this workshop is for you! We sit in the local park and make beautiful necklaces. We do not use metal or plastic here. Instead, we use wood, leaves, and small stones that we find on the beach. You do not need to pay any money for this class because the youth club pays for everything. The class starts at 10 a.m. Please remember to wear a sun hat to keep your head cool!

Plastic Fantastic

Do you want to make cool earrings? Join us this Saturday afternoon at the community centre. In this fun class, we teach you how to make colorful jewelry from old plastic bottles and cups. You must bring your own empty bottles from home to use. We have safe, warm machines to change the plastic into fun shapes. A ticket is £3, but you can keep everything you make. You do not need safety glasses or hats here!

    Movie Character T-Shirts

    Lucas

I love the new Space Heroes movie. Last week, I found a cool T-shirt with the main character on it on the internet. I bought it with my pocket money. But when it arrived, there was a problem. I ordered a small size, but the shirt was very big! I was quite sad because I really wanted to wear it to the cinema. Now, I am going to give it to my older brother because it will fit him perfectly.

    Emma

My favourite movie is about a scary monster. I looked for a T-shirt with the monster on it for a long time. Finally, I found one in a shop near my school. It cost a lot of money, so I had to ask my parents for some help. They didn't really like the picture because they think it's ugly, but they still gave me the money. I wear the T-shirt every weekend now, and my friends think it is amazing.

    Tom

I am a big fan of the Funny Animals movies. I wanted to buy a T-shirt with the funny dog from the film. I looked in many shops, but I couldn't find anything I liked. The pictures on the clothes were always too small. So, I bought a plain white T-shirt and used special paints to draw the dog myself. It looks fantastic! Now, two of my classmates want me to paint movie characters on their clothes too. I am very happy!

A Muddy football kits   B Wet swimming things   C Sweaty running clothes

      Washing your sports kits

      Muddy football kits

Do you play football in the rain? Your sports clothes often get very dirty and full of mud. It is important to wait for the mud to dry first. You can easily brush the dry dirt off outside. After that, wash your shirts with the inside on the outside. This keeps the names and numbers on your kit safe. Always use cold water in the washing machine. Hot water will make your clothes smaller!

      Wet swimming things

Swimming is a great sport, but pool water is bad for your swimming clothes. When you finish swimming, you must wash your things straight away. Do not wait until the next day! You just need to wash them in cold water in the sink. Never put your wet swimming kits outside in the sun to dry. The bright light will change the colours. Always leave them inside the house in a cool room.

      Sweaty running clothes

Running makes you very hot, and your clothes can smell very bad. Sometimes, normal washing soap does not work. You can put a little white vinegar from your kitchen in the water to help. Never leave your wet running clothes in your sports bag for a long time. It makes the bad smell much worse. Also, do not put your sports clothes in a hot drying machine. The heat breaks the material. Just hang them up in the bathroom.

      Answer Key & Explanations

7 B - Reason: "Wet swimming things" tells you to wash your things "straight away" and "Do not wait". "Muddy football kits" has a trap saying you should "wait for the mud to dry".

10 B - Reason: "Wet swimming things" says you should not put clothes in the sun because the light "will change the colours".
