Matching dance jackets
Sara
Our street dance group has a big show next month. We wanted to look cool, so I used my computer to order matching blue jackets. When they arrived in the post, we had a big surprise. They were green, not blue! We cannot send them back because there is no time. Luckily, my mother is very clever with clothes. She is going to sew some blue material on the arms. I hope they look good!
Tom
My friends and I dance hip-hop together. Last week, we went to a big clothes shop in our town to find matching jackets. The new jackets in the shop cost too much money. Instead, we went to a market and bought some cheap second-hand black jackets. They look fantastic! We bought some special white paint and wrote our dance team's name on the back of each jacket. Everyone loves them when we practice in the park.
Nina
My dance group has matching red jackets. They are very thick and warm, which is great for winter. We did not buy them in a shop or online. We actually won a dance competition, and the jackets were the first prize! My older sister is in another dance team, and she really wants a jacket like mine. I love the beautiful red colour, but there is one problem. My jacket is much too big for me!
Answer Key & Explanations
7 C - Reason: Nina says "We did not buy them" and explains that they "were the first prize" in a competition.
8 B - Reason: Tom says "we went to a big clothes shop in our town" and "went to a market" to buy them. Sara ordered hers online.
9 A - Reason: Sara says "my mother is very clever with clothes. She is going to sew some blue material". Nina mentions her sister, but her sister is not helping.
10 B - Reason: Tom says they "wrote our dance team's name on the back of each jacket."
11 C - Reason: Nina says "My jacket is much too big for me!". Sara's text has a trap about her jackets being the wrong colour, not the wrong size.
12 A - Reason: Sara says "I used my computer to order matching blue jackets." Nina specifically says she did not buy hers online.
13 A - Reason: Sara says "Our street dance group has a big show next month." Nina mentions a competition, but it happened in the past.

Getting Cheap Equipment for a New Hobby
Swap with People You Know
Starting a new hobby can cost a lot of money, but you do not always have to buy new things. First, ask your friends and older family members. Maybe your uncle has an old guitar or a football shirt he does not need anymore. You can also have a 'swap party' with your classmates. If you have ice skates that are too small, you can give them to a friend. Then, they might give you their old tennis racket!
Buying Used Things Online
You can find very cheap hobby equipment on the internet. There are many websites where people sell their old sports clothes or cameras. But you must be careful! You should look at all the photos closely before you buy. Sometimes the items are broken, or the pictures do not show everything. It is a good idea to find sellers who live in your town. Then, you can meet them and check the items before you pay any money.
Borrowing from Clubs
Before you buy expensive equipment for a new hobby, you should try borrowing it. Many school sports clubs have extra rackets, balls, and shoes for new students. You can use these things for free during your first few weeks. The teachers always wash the clothes and clean the equipment after you use them. When you are sure you really love the hobby, you can save your pocket money to buy your own things.
Answer Key & Explanations
7 C - Reason: Text C says that before you buy expensive equipment, you can "use these things for free" at school sports clubs.

12 B - Reason: Text B warns you to be careful because "Sometimes the items are broken".

Trading video games for a jacket
Alex
I really wanted a warm winter jacket. I had a huge box of old video games in my bedroom. I decided to sell them on a website. It took a long time to put photos of all fifty games on the internet, but I got a lot of money! At first, I wanted a black jacket. But when I went to the shop, I saw a fantastic blue one and bought that instead. My parents were very surprised by my new clothes!
Ben
I wanted a cool leather jacket for my birthday. I took my old video games to a games shop in our town. I hoped to get a lot of cash for them. Sadly, the man in the shop said my games were too old and broken. He only gave me a few pounds. It was not enough for the jacket. Luckily, my mum and dad gave me the rest of the money. I wear my new black jacket every day now.
Charlie
There is a really famous jacket on the internet, and I wanted to buy it. I did not use a computer to sell my old video games. Instead, I brought them to school and traded them with my classmates. They gave me enough money, so I ordered the jacket online. It arrived yesterday, but it is much too big for me! I need to send it back and get a smaller one. I hope my friends like it when I finally wear it.
