Selling our old clothes

Leo

I sell my old sweaters and jeans on social media. I think clear pictures are the most important thing. If the photo is dark, nobody wants to buy the clothes. When someone buys something, I don't send it by post. I always walk or take the bus to meet them in the town centre. It saves time and money! I keep the cash in a special box in my bedroom. When I have enough, I buy new video games.

Mia

I love selling old clothes online, but I don't just sell them. I paint little flowers or stars on them first. People love my art and pay more money for these things. My older sister is brilliant at using social media. She writes all the text for my pages because I am not very good at it. I am saving all my money at the moment. My favourite band is playing in our city next year, and I want a ticket.

Toby

I grow very fast, so my clothes are often too small for me after a few months. I sell my old jackets and shirts online. I wash them carefully first so they look new. When someone buys something, I put it in a nice bag. I also write a little card to say thank you and put it inside. I don't keep the money I make for very long. I usually go straight to the shops and buy bigger clothes!

Answer Key & Explanations

7 B - Reason: Mia says "I paint little flowers or stars on them first." Toby washes his clothes, but he doesn't change how they look.

8 C - Reason: Toby says he uses the money to "buy bigger clothes". Leo uses his money for video games.

9 B - Reason: Mia says her "older sister" writes all the text for her pages.

10 A - Reason: Leo says "clear pictures are the most important thing."

11 C - Reason: Toby says "I also write a little card to say thank you and put it inside." Mia's sister writes text for the online pages, not a note for the buyer.

12 A - Reason: Leo says "I don't send it by post. I always walk or take the bus to meet them".

13 B - Reason: Mia says "My favourite band is playing... and I want a ticket."

Using a virtual fitting room app

      Leo

I always use a clothing app before I buy anything. I take a photo of myself and put new jackets or trousers on my picture. I like to check if they look good with the shoes and shirts I already have in my cupboard. Sometimes I am not sure, so I send the photos to my friends to ask them. Once, I bought a green sweater that looked terrible on the app. I hoped it was better in real life, but it wasn't!

      Mia

My mum found this great app and showed it to me. Now, I use it all the time. The best thing is that you can see if the size is right for you. I hate sending clothes back when they are too big! I also use the app just for fun. I love trying on very expensive dresses or crazy hats that I will never actually buy. My brother tried to use it for shoes, but it didn't work well for him.

      Sam

I really don't like spending my weekend in town looking for clothes. Because of that, I think this app is much better than going to real shops. It saves me so much time! I just open the app and look at lots of different T-shirts. The only bad thing is that because my phone is quite old, the app is sometimes very slow. But it is still really useful. I told my friends about it, but they still prefer going to the shopping centre.

      Answer Key & Explanations

7 B - Reason: Mia says "My mum found this great app and showed it to me," which means she learned about it from her mother.

8 C - Reason: Sam says he doesn't like spending his weekend in town and thinks the app is "much better than going to real shops."

9 A - Reason: Leo talks about a time he "bought a green sweater that looked terrible on the app."

10 A - Reason: Leo says he uses the app to check if new clothes look good with the "shoes and shirts I already have in my cupboard."

11 C - Reason: Sam says that because his phone is old, "the app is sometimes very slow," which means it takes a long time.

12 B - Reason: Mia says she uses the app to try on expensive dresses and hats "that I will never actually buy."

13 A - Reason: Leo explains that when he is not sure about a piece of clothing, "I send the photos to my friends to ask them."
