Dressing for Famous Places

TempleTrips

When you visit famous temples, you must think about your clothes. You cannot wear shorts or T-shirts. You need to cover your arms and legs. It is a good idea to put a long scarf in your bag. You can wear it over your shoulders before you go inside. Also, remember to look at your feet. You must take your shoes off at the door. You will have to walk inside the temple in your socks, so make sure they have no holes!

CitySights

Summer is a great time to visit famous old buildings in the city. The sun is often very hot, so you should wear a hat to protect your head. But you must remember to take your hat off when you walk into a church. It is not polite to wear it indoors. You will also walk a lot on hard city streets. Do not wear heavy boots. You need light sports shoes so your feet do not get tired at the end of the day.

CastleTours

Old castles are very beautiful, but they are often cold inside. Even in summer, you should bring a warm jacket with you. You can wear your normal T-shirt and shorts, but keep the jacket in a small bag. You must not bring a big backpack because you might break something in the castle. Also, you do not need to take your shoes off here. But you must not wear shoes with wheels on them because they can damage the old floors.

    Losing My Luggage

    Tom

I travelled to Italy with my family last summer. We went there for my cousin's wedding. When we arrived at the airport, my big suitcase was missing! I had to buy a smart shirt and trousers quickly. It was a very bad day. My suitcase finally arrived at our hotel two days later. By then, the wedding was finished, so I just kept my old clothes in the bag. I really liked the new shirt I bought, anyway!

    Anna

My friends and I flew to Spain for a beach holiday. We waited at the airport for a long time, but my bag never came. The airline said it went to France! I only had my heavy winter coat, so I went to a local street market to get cheap shorts and T-shirts. I was angry at first, but I loved my new summer clothes. Sadly, the airline couldn't find my bag, so I didn't get it back.

    Leo

I went on a skiing holiday in the mountains with my school. After the flight, my luggage wasn't there. I needed thick sweaters and a big coat for the snow. Because it was the airline's mistake, they gave me some money to go shopping. I found some great warm clothes in town. I wore them all week! On the last day, just before we went home, my bag finally arrived at the hotel.

    Answer Key & Explanations

Washing your clothes in a hotel

      Travel Tips: Washing T-shirts

Do you need clean clothes on your holiday? It is easy to wash your t-shirts and socks in your hotel room. First, put warm water in the sink. If you forgot your washing soap, do not worry! You can use hotel shampoo. Wash your clothes carefully with your hands. When you finish, do not just leave them wet. Put your clothes flat on a dry towel and roll it up hard. This takes the water out. Finally, hang your things near an open window.

      Hotel Helper: Clean Clothes

You can always have fresh socks when you travel. Before you begin, you must wash the hotel sink carefully. It is often dirty! Next, add water and soap. Remember to use cold water for red or blue t-shirts. Hot water makes the colours look old. Wash your clothes and then use clean water to take the soap out. If you need your socks quickly, use the hairdryer from the hotel bathroom. They will dry in a few minutes and feel nice and warm!

      Quick Wash Guide

Washing small things like socks in a hotel sink is a great idea. However, you should never wash heavy clothes like jeans. They hold too much water and take days to dry! Put your dirty t-shirts in the sink with soapy water. Leave them there for fifteen minutes before you wash them. This makes the dirt come out easily. After washing, put your wet clothes on a hanger in the bathroom. If you leave them there overnight, they are ready the next morning.
