Texting Parents from School Camp

Emma

I love school camp! We do many fun activities in the forest. Every evening, I text my parents. I always send them pictures of the trees and our tents. My phone fell in the river on the first day, so I borrow my teacher's phone to write to them. I usually send very short messages. We play hard all day, and my eyes hurt. I just want to go to sleep quickly!

Liam

This camp is brilliant! My mum and dad worry about me a lot when I am away. Because of this, I have to text them at exactly eight o'clock every evening. I always tell them about our dinners. Yesterday, we had amazing chicken and rice! My friend Ben sometimes forgets to text his family, but I always remember. I usually write long messages to my parents before I go to my tent.

Chloe

I am having a great time with my classmates here. I usually text my family after dinner. I have a group chat with my mum, dad, and older sister. It is easy to talk to all of them together. Sometimes we play board games in the evening. When we do that, I am very busy and I completely forget to text! I would like to send photos to them, but my camera is broken.

Tips to Save Your Smartphone Battery

    ScreenSaver Guide

When you explore a new place, you look at your phone a lot. The phone screen uses the most battery. To save power, you should make the screen darker. Just turn the brightness down. Also, check how long your screen stays on after you finish using it. It is a good idea to change the settings so the screen goes black after just ten seconds. Some people use their phones to listen to music, but you don't need to look at the screen for that!

    Smart Travel Tips

Your phone uses a lot of power when it tries to find the internet. If you are walking in the mountains, you must turn off your Wi-Fi. You also need to close all the games and programs you are not using. They use battery when they run secretly in the background. It is also smart to get your travel map before you leave your house. You can save the directions on your phone, so you do not need the internet to find your way.

    Power Master Advice

If you want your phone to work all day, you must turn on 'low power mode' in the morning. This simple setting helps your phone save a lot of battery. You must also think about the weather. Do not leave your phone in the hot sun, because heat is bad for the battery. If you want to take lots of photos all day, you should put an extra battery in your bag. Then, you can easily add more power to your phone when you stop.

Using weather apps to pack for a holiday

      Ben

I always check my weather app before a winter holiday. Next week, my family is going to the mountains. I look at the temperatures on my phone every day. It says it will be very cold with a lot of snow. I must pack my thick coats and warm hats. My app shows it will not be sunny at all. So, I do not need to put any summer t-shirts or shorts in my bag! My bag is already full of winter clothes.

      Maya

I use a great app to help me pack for my beach holidays. It tells me how many hours of sun we will get each day. I am going to the sea tomorrow, so I am packing lots of dresses and swimming clothes. When I was younger, my mum always packed my bag for me. Now, I do it myself. The app says it might rain on Tuesday. Because of that, I am putting a small umbrella in my suitcase.

      Tom

I am going on a walking holiday in a big city soon. The weather changes a lot there. My phone app is very useful because it shows the weather for every hour. I pack clothes that I can wear together. I take t-shirts, but I also pack warm jumpers. The app says there will be strong winds next weekend. So, I will wear a good jacket instead of taking an umbrella. An umbrella breaks easily when it is windy!

12 A - Reason: Ben explicitly mentions that he looks at the "temperatures on my phone every day" for his trip.

13 B - Reason: Maya mentions she is going to the sea and packing lots of dresses and "swimming clothes."
