Travelling with a surfboard
Sam
I love surfing at the weekend, but taking my long surfboard on the train is terrible. The board is very big, so it is hard to get through the train doors. Sometimes I stand in the middle, and the other passengers are not happy because they cannot walk past me. Now, I never travel in the morning. I always wait at the station for a few hours until the train is empty. It takes a long time, but it is much easier!
Alex
I live far from the beach, so I must take the bus with my surfboard. It is always a difficult journey. Sometimes the bus driver says I cannot come inside because my board is too big. When I can get on, I have to buy a second ticket just for the surfboard! Inside the bus, I have to hold the board carefully. If I don't, it hits the roof when the bus stops or starts. I hope to get a car soon.
Jamie
My favourite beach is near the city, so I use the underground train to get there. The worst part is walking to the station. When it is windy, the weather pushes my surfboard, and I cannot walk fast. Inside the station, there are lots of stairs. Carrying a heavy board up and down is very hard work for my arms! I tried to use the lift once, but my long board was too tall to fit inside.

Drawing at the train station
Leo
I go to the big train station after school. It is always very busy. I love drawing the people there. I try to draw them when they are walking quickly to catch their trains. It is quite difficult! I usually draw their winter coats and hats. I have a little sketchbook that fits perfectly inside my coat pocket. My grandfather also likes drawing, but he usually paints pictures of the countryside. He does not like busy places.
Mia
My art teacher told us to practice drawing outside. So, I take my paper and pencils to the train station on Saturday mornings. I do not draw people who are running or walking. I prefer to find people who are sitting down on the benches. It is very easy to draw someone when they are quietly reading a book or a newspaper. I never use pens because I often make mistakes. I just use a grey pencil.
Sam
I visit the train station near my house every weekend. There are always lots of people waiting for their trains. I really enjoy drawing parents with their young children and their pets. I never use a grey pencil. I bring lots of pens so I can put beautiful colours in my pictures. Last week, I drew a woman with a small dog. I gave the paper to her. She was very happy and said thank you!
